After Kareena now Anjali to work with Aamir-Imran

Sunday, 4 December 2011

To strike gold twice happens rarely in a lifetime and Anjali Lavania is the new girl on the block who has managed to do so!

She has shot for a Titan watch commercial opposite Aamir Khan as well as Levis jeans commercial opposite Imran Khan. This only being a reminder of the fact that she is the only model/actress after Kareena Kapoor to have worked with the mamu-bhanja duo.

But Anjali is definitely making her presence felt by doing something like this just at the beginning of her career. "She's has sheer determination and great competitive spirit to keep her ground strong out here in this industry," says a close friend.

Anjali is a former Kingfisher Calendar Girl who discovered modeling as her forte at a very early age. She was spotted by the ace photographer Atul Kasbekar.

Anjali who has modeled in New York, Los Angeles and Lakme Fashion week, will soon be making her debut in a Telugu film PANJAA opposite Pawan Kalyan.

Sunny Leone won't go nude: Mahesh Bhatt

Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt, who entered the Bigg Boss house on Thursday to offer Sunny Leone a lead role in Jism 2, seems to be completely smitten by the porn star. The filmmaker says that the role is very complex and demands a lot of understanding and emotional depth and keeping in mind that Sunny has gone through a lot of struggle in her real life as well, she is the prefect choice to enact the character. The film which is a sequel to John-Bipasha starrer Jism, will be made under his daughter Pooja Bhatt’s banner, Fish Eye Network. Earlier, there were rumours doing the rounds that Jism 2 will be made on Sunny’s life but the 61-year old director rubbished all of them and claimed that the story of the film will be completely fictional. Reportedly, Mallika Sherawat and Bipasha Basu were earlier considered for the role but the requirements of these established actresses were too much and it was decided to rope in the Indo-Canadian star. Speaking to a daily about the nudity in the film, Bhatt said that Indian society doesn’t have the guts to accept porn. Sunny is working in his film but she will be within the ‘lakshman rekha’ of the Indian culture. He also added that in India, nudity is not allowed and people are completely against it, so they will not get into that part. She will have to deliver on their terms and conditions and fortunately she is willing to do that. There is also a buzz that the movie might see director’s nephew Emraan Hashmi opposite Sunny but the director didn’t confirm it and said that it will be decided once she is out of the house. The episode aired on television saw Sunny talking to Bhatt in a very comfortable manner with the filmmaker occasionally holding her hand to make her at ease. She spoke to him about her life and said that whatever she is today, she has no qualms about it and that she is indeed happy in whatever she chose in life. At the end of a conversation she even exclaimed that ‘for ten minutes, she could be herself’. With Bigg Boss house being a household name now, seems that the promotion of the film has begun well in advance, even before the movie is made.

Ranveer Singh's reputation is being slashed in T'town

Filmmakers who have been trying to cast Ranveer in their films are speaking ill of his impolite behaviour.

As retaliation, Ranveer, the Ladies VDS Ricky Bahl actor has cancelled promotional plans for his films and decided to uniwind with his pals Karan Kapadia and Afzal Irani instead. He is very aware of the malicious whispers in the industry and just can’t seem to understand why people are speaking ill about him.

B’wood’s heartthrob, Ranveer Singh has been previously linked with Anushka Sharma and now his latest interest seems to be Sonakshi Sinha. While the media seems to be reporting Sonakshi’s dislike for him, Ranveer dismisses all those claims. He is dedicated to his work and nothing else! The only thing he admits to being guilty to is his need to be liked by everyone! He goes out of his way to be nice to people and if that is misunderstood as desperate, then he can’t help that!

Ranveer has no plans to change how nice he is, so take it or leave it B’wood!

Rohit Shetty, Director of 'Ashtavinayak' or 'Bol Bachan?'
Rohit Shetty, Director of 'Ashtavinayak' or 'Bol Bachan?'

Producer Aarif Khan has already started filming ‘Bol Bachan’ with himself and Amitabh Bachan’s duplicate in the lead role. His movie revolves around farmer suicides. However, Rohit Shetty, has also filed for a movie with the same name with the Association of Motion Pictures and TV Programme Producers (AMPTPP), starring Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan. Obviously Aarif Khan was upset when he realised that AMPTPP had given the title to previously named Ashtavinayak for Rohit Shetty especially as he has already started filming his movie.

Ratan Jain, AMPTPP President, explained that the title has not been given to Ashtavinayak but it is with the association itself. The title was with Aarif for three years. According to AMPTPP, if the person does not start shooting the particular film they can give the title to the next party. If Aarif has indeed begun shooting then he has to produce evidence. The Association is now waiting for proof from Mr. Khan. If he cannot do this, the title ‘Bol Bachan’ will be given to Rohit Shetty.

Veena Malik denies nude photo shoot for FHM

Friday, 2 December 2011

Veena Malik has stirred controversy in both Pakistan and India — and this time she is not even involved. An alleged photograph of the actress posing nude appeared on the Indian online edition of the international monthly men’s lifestyle magazine FHM on Friday, but her PR manager confirmed to The Express Tribunethat the photograph is fake.

When contacted by The Express Tribune, Veena Malik’s PR Manager Sohail Rashid said Malik has not done any such photo shoot.

He added that Malik was unaware about the shoot, since she was currently busy shooting for two movies in India.

Rashid said that she has instructed him to approach their lawyer, on December 3, to deliberate a legal course of action with regards to the matter.

“Veena knows her limits. I know we have done quite bold stuff/shoots, those which are available on our website, but she knows her parameters. Yes we need to be bold for international magazines, but she won’t cross her limits,” Rashid added.

The picture – which was posted on FHM India’s website, Facebook page and Twitter account simultaneously – was cited as the cover of the magazine’s December 2011 issue.

The actress was shown naked, brandishing an Inter-Services Intelligence agency (ISI) tattoo on her arm, linked to text that says “hand in the end of the world too?”.

The magazine cover made waves online, with many speculating over the authenticity of the photograph.

Times of India report quoted Malik while speaking during the photo shoot:

“It’s tough standing on one leg, while trying to cover up with one hand and running the other through my hair – you guys are going to pay for this.”

In a new Times of India report, Veena has been quoted denying she has posed nude for the magazine. She says the photographs have been morphed.

“I have never posed nude. I have never done anything like that ever. My manager and legal team is looking into the matter. We will take legal action against them.”

“The picture has been morphed. Its not me. Definitely not.”

FHM India Editor Kabeer Sharma denies her claim and says the magazine has proof of the photo shoot.

“The photo shoot was done in Mumbai on November 22. We have a video of the photo shoot.”

“I also have an email from Veena in which she says she has seen the photos and is happy with them, and that she’s looking forward to seeing the cover.”

Beti B's pictures worth Rs 5 crores

Bachchans refuse to sell pics of their baby girl, demand zooms further

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan

All of the world wants to see pictures of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan's little girl. Some people more than others. The buzz is that an international magazine has offered the Bachchans Rs 5 crores for pictures of the baby.

The family has, of course, been steadfast in their refusal to share pictures of the youngest Bachchan. Amitabh Bachchan had tweeted most recently, “To those that clamour for baby’s picture, I have said it before, it will not be happening... do understand, it’s personal.”

Ever since Aishwarya's baby's birth on November 16, newspapers and magazines across the world have been competing to try and get pictures of newest addition to the Bachchan family. As Ash, Abhi and Big B left the Seven Hills Hospital in Mumbai on November 22 and returned home, photographers went into a tizzy trying to get pictures of the baby. All that they managed was a long shot of the little one wrapped in a pink blanket.

There were even morphed pics of Aishwarya and the baby floating around on the internet, which Big B's Twitter followers traced for him. The megastar posted the fake pics on his Twitter page as well.

So will the real pics of Beti B make it to the public domain? Will the Bachchans change their mind about sharing images of their little girl? Watch this space for updates!

Salman Khan defends Pooja Bedi

Bigg Boss 5: Salman Khan defends Pooja Bedi.
After taking potshots at Salman Khan for favouring Mehek Chahal over Siddharth Bhardwaj, actor Pooja Bedi faces the ire of Salman Khan’s fans. Sallu requests his fans to chill
Remember how Salman Khan fumed when Siddharth Bhardwaj tried kicking Mahek Chahal in Bigg Boss house? Taking sides with Mahek, the Dabangg actor gave an earful to the young VJ, making him cry in full public view. Pooja Bedi, who was in the house when this episode happened, felt that Salman was biased in his judgment. But she broke her silence only when she got evicted from the house last week and expressed that Salman’s attitude towards Siddharth had been unfair. She said, “Salman calling the shots on Bigg Boss.” Pooja’s comments on Sallu did not go well down with the Bodyguard actor’s fans and Pooja was inundated with hate mail on twitter. She finally had to come out and clarify, saying, “@BeingSalmanKhan Has been my friend for over 20 years! I’ve known him since before Maine Pyaar Kiya. Chill! I’m equally concerned about him (sic).” The fans were also expecting a karara jawab from Sallu bhai, but Salman decided to remain calm, much to their dismay. He, in fact, defended Bedi in his tweet, “Don’t stress abt it , known pooja since 20yrs , she is sweet, let it go. Its all good (sic).” Now is this just a lull before the storm? Or will Salman speak his mind on the upcoming episode of Bigg Boss and clear his stand? Well, even though Sallu is known for taking many pangas with the men in the industry, he has always refrained from badmouthing the women. So looking at his previous track record, it seems highly unlikely that Khan will make any unsavoury remarks about good friend Pooja on a public platform. Anyway, we would just like to say that Ms Bedi has been really lucky to get away with such a sweeping statement about one of B-town’s biggest stars!

Desi Boyz Movie Final Review

Fun and boys bonding makes for great comedy in Rohit Dhawan's latest

'Desi Boyz' provides plenty of laughs

'Desi Boyz' provides plenty of laughs

Cast: Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Chitrangda Singh, Anupam Kher

Director: Rohit Dhawan

Boys bonding is a great subject for comedies. Tarun Mansukhani tried it in ‘Dostana’. Debutant director Rohit Dhawan gives a far more blithe and effervescent spin to that thing called friendship that makes us do all kinds of weird and wonderful things. Sometimes in tandem.

‘Desi Boyz’ is a very entertaining yarn about two guys in Britain taking on recession with a bit of naughty moonlighting as, ahem ahem, gigolos. Or, as brothel-chief Sanjay Dutt (who comes to the strains of ‘Nayak nahin khalnayak hoon main’, a la ‘Ra.One’) describes it, Jerry (Akshay Kumar) and Nick (John Abraham) are in the business of making women smile.

‘Desi Boyz’ goes beyond the fair sex. It makes everyone smile most of the while. The editing (Nitin Rokade) is seamless, bringing together the four principal actors' individual charms into a collective space without crowding the canvas. To their credit every principal actor, and that includes Anupam Kher (playing Deepika Padukone's zany dad) and Omi Vaidya (as her wimpy fiance) seems to get into the film's vivacious frothy mood without letting the dark underbelly of the film be squandered in frivolity.

Remarkably the film's light crisp upper-crust secretes a hard, somber bedrock of truth about how tough life can get in a super-competitive society where keeping up appearances can also mean looking your best after being told you've just lost your job.

Devastation is no reason for cosmetic bankruptcy.

Among this film's many virtues of being an engaging rom-com is its unmistakable glamour. The four main actors have seldom looked so fetching. Is it the camera (N. Natarajan Subramnaniam), the lighting and the choreography, all first-rate, or is it something more? The sheer pleasure that the actors derive in getting into the mood of an intelligently-written comedy is palpable, almost every step along the way. You can't miss the pride in playing a part in a parody that never plays dumb.

The narration moves effortlessly even while negotiating the highly filmy episodes. There is a heart-wrenching orphaned little boy (Virej Dasani, adorably cute) who needs a home with his bankrupt uncle (Akshay Kumar) badly. In movies of yore the heroines would perform mujras in kothas to preserve the sanctity of their family values. Here the boys strip and dance for their recession-hit lives.

Admirably Rohit Dhawan's screenplay turns the men into sex objects with comic candour and without a trace of self consciousness. Not that the women are any less attractive to the eye. Deepika Padukone has not much to do, and Chitrangda even less. The latter gets to play strip poker during exam revision with her 'student' Akshay Kumar.

It's a brilliantly written scene full of tantalising possibilities.

‘Desi Boyz’ has ample room for skin-show and cheesiness. It goes for the skin with élan and avoids the cheesy ramifications by simply turning away from double meanings (the director Rohit's father David Dhawan's forteBut the overall impression is that of a class comic act, a sumptuously-mounted sex comedy, no pun, but plenty fun, intended.

The songs (Pritam) and the choreography remain true to the film's entertainment-quotient. And the performances are a delight. Deepika has just a couple of scenes to sink her teeth into. She's a delight in the sequence where she tries to win John back from a Caucasian diversion in a pub. Chitrangda's sexy teacher act echoing Sushmita Sen in ‘Main Hoon Na’, shows her taking full charge of the commercial language. She smoulders.

John Abraham had hardly ever been seen having so much fun. Though his dancing is still lumbering, this ranks as his most watchable performance since ‘New York’. And Anupam Kher as his father-in-law-to-be brings a queer blend of a 17-going-on-70 boy-man to his patriarch's part. Great fun to play and to view.

But the film finally belongs to Akshay Kumar, make no mistake about that. While other A-list stars from his generation have begun to look faded at the edges Akshay gets better with each film. Here, in this film, his comic timing is matched by his ability to hold up dramatic moments without letting them sink into over-sentimentality. This is arguably Akshay's best performance in a comic role since Priyadarshan's ‘Hera Pheri’.

Put your hands together for ‘Desi Boyz’. Smart, sassy, sexy and sparkling with dark audacious humour, the film brings us a striking director in Rohit Dhawan.
