Salman, Katrina off to Cuba together for a month

Salman, Katrina off to Cuba together for a monthThe warm weather in the country is expected to soothe Salman Khan's neurological condition. Kat's presence should help too

After two back-to-back stage performances, Katrina Kaif is all set to leave for Cuba, where a month-long shooting schedule of Kabir Khan's Ek Tha Tiger has been planned.

While no Hindi film has ever been shot there before, buzz is that the location has been chosen keeping in mind Salman Khan's neurological condition. The weather there is warm and will not affect Salman's health.

A source close to the project says, "Salman's neuro-condition which is not fully cured, was aggravated when he shot in the freezing cold in Ireland for the film some months ago. Kabir likes to shoot in difficult locations."

Incidentally, Salman will be performing some of the most intricate stunts of his career there. Apparently, it is being said that Katrina will keep an eye out for her former beau as he continues with his daredevil stunts.

Says a friend of the actress, "Their relationship has now gone to another level where he continues to look out for her, and she for him. While they'll be shooting in Cuba she will be keeping an eye on his health."

When contacted, Katrina states, "I'll be gone for quite a while. I've never been to Cuba before. It sounds exciting."

Sameera Reddy glams up the game

Sameera Reddy glams up the gameShe can ride heavy bikes and scuba dive like a professional, but actor Sameera Reddy admits that she can't hold a bat straight to save her life.

However, that hasn't deterred the leggy lass from joining the Chennai team of the celebrity cricket league as their brand ambassador. The lady, who finds Australian cricketer Shane Watson "Chikna, chocolate-faced and everything a girl would want to see on a cricket field", talks to CS about cricket and cricketers:

Cricket crazy
I must confess that cricket never interested me when I was kid nor in my teens. My dad used to watch the boring five-day long Test matches which seemed to go on and on.

But the IPL got me hooked onto cricket with its 20-20 game format, glamour and high drama. It's one tournament I follow religiously. The kind of hype cricket generates in India is enough to attract women.

I guess ladies love the excitement that surrounds a cricketer, which is why you see many glamorous and beautiful women getting attracted to players. It is also about power.

A scary toss to win
I find the thought of dating a cricketer a little intimidating. Trust me, there's more drama in a player's life than in a film star's. It is sometimes scary.

I don't think I would enjoy the extreme excitement and constant scrutiny that follows a cricketer- actress relationship. But then, you never know. I might just fall for someone someday (smiles). A few cricketers are on my Blackberry and send friendly messages to me.

But I am not going to disclose any names because it doesn't take even a proper chingari (spark) to kick off the rumour mills (laughs out loud). But there are some similarities in an actor and cricketer's life. We're both as good as our last match/film.

I remember how everyone wrote off Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) in 2010, but post the World Cup win, he was once again the heartthrob of the nation. Fame is indeed fickle!

Boys will be boys
The post-match parties are great fun. With so much testosterone packed in one room, there is bound to be some tempers fraying and flirting as well (laughs). Cricket, even if it's a galli (lane) match between two teams, is serious business.

Our Chennai boys are very passionate about the game. We have a solid captain in Vishal and the rest of the team is also good. In fact, the final of the last league between Chennai and Karnataka was as intense as an India-Pakistan match.

As far as the current India-Australia series is concerned, I am as upset as any other Indian fan. I think that Dhoni and his boys ought to buck up and focus on their game.

They're hot!
I am a big fan of Yuvraj Singh. He has great flair and plays from his heart. Shane Watson is another favourite. He's extremely sweet, courteous and gracious as a person.

And a handsome bloke too! I had the chance to see Chris Gayle in action last year, and those blitzkrieg sixes were a treat for me. Virat Kohli has a lot of style and attitude too, both on and off the field.

Lastly, Kumar Sangakkara is one of the few remaining gentlemen to play the gentleman's game.

Is Sajid harming Jacqueline’s career?

The actress is allegedly losing out on films because of his dominating ways

Jacqueline Fernandez
Jacqueline Fernandez

Jacqueline Fernandez was touted as the next best thing to hit Bollywood after her hit ‘Murder 2’ but it looks like she is going downhill and the person responsible is none other than her boyfriend, director Sajid Khan. Jacqueline has thus far lost out on two big projects – the Hrithik Roshan starrer ‘Krrish 3’ and Abbas- Mustan’s ‘Race 2’ at her boyfriend’s insistence. Now we hear that she has walked out of another big project - ‘Raaz 3!’

According to reports Jacqueline’s daring, bare-it-all act for ‘Murder 2’ impressed the Bhatt camp so much that they were ready to offer her the third installment of the highly successful ‘Raaz’ franchise. But the former Sri Lankan model tuned to say ‘No’ by her boyfriend gave the Bhatts her decisive reply.

An industry insider revealed that Sajid is dead against Jacqueline exposing in any movies. Since the script of ‘Raaz 3’ demanded Jacqueline to squeeze into tight, revealing costumes and also share intimate moments with her male co-star Sajid asked Jacqueline to decline the offer and Jacky obeyed. Apparently, Sajid thinks that exposing on screen could also relegate Jacqueline to a B-grade actress in B’wood.

When approached for comment Mahesh Bhatt confirmed the news and said that he was looking for a replacement to Jacqueline.

Moral of the story: a possessive boyfriend is injurious to an actress’ career!

Big B-Akon to sing for a cause

Aadesh Shrivastav to bring the popular duo together for an album

Amitabh Bachchan
Amitabh Bachchan

American pop singer Akon’s ‘Chammak Challo’ made him a household name in India last year. Now, it seems Bollywood music composers want more of Akon crooning in Hindi. Aadesh Shrivastava is his latest fan and wants to collaborate with the singer in his new album along with none other than the Big B.

Aadesh recently stated that the album he was putting together was about peace and love and therefore he wanted a popular personality such as the Big B to convey the message. Apparently, during one of the jamming sessions with Amitabh for his album they both felt that it would be good to have another icon such as Akon whose songs have millions of listeners the world over, to promote the album’s message.

Aadesh also dismissed he would face any hurdles with the album because he felt the cause was big and both Amitji and Akon strongly believed in it.

According to the composer, Big B and Akon’s first gig for the album would take off around March in Mumbai. Plans are also afoot to bring the two icons together in New York for a performance to commemorate 9/11 in September.

Wedding preparations on in full swing: Genelia

Wedding preparations on in full swing: GeneliaRiteish Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza are ready to tie the knot Feb 3, and without revealing much more, the actress says the preparations are keeping the couple occupied.

"I'm in a very happy space right now. Preparations are going on in full swing," Genelia told here.

The couple has been dating each other for over eight years. In November 2011, Riteish, son of Mahrashtra's former chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, finally opened up about their relationship status.

"Earlier, we never spoke about our relationship. We maintained a distance and dignity, and now since we are getting married, it would be stupid if I don't talk about it," said Genelia, who made her Bollywood debut opposite her to-be-husband in "Tujhe Meri Kasam" in 2003.

On the big screen, they were last seen together in "Masti" in 2004, but they have now teamed up again for romantic comedy "Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya", releasing Feb 24.

Though Genelia remained tightlipped about the designer who is styling her for her D-day, and other pre-wedding celebrations, she said: "Wait and watch how it is going to be!"

According to reports, the duo will have a grand sangeet Jan 31, following which their close friends Sajid Nadiadwala and Fardeen Khan will throw a party for the couple a day before their wedding.

My wife is a better businessperson: Sanjay Dutt

My wife is a better businessperson: Sanjay DuttSanjay Dutt says contrary to him, his wife has real aptitude for finance

Why are you missing from the Agneepath promotions?
I don't think so. I am going to be doing the interviews very soon. I am very excited about the film. I am getting such a positive feedback. It's funny that a villain (he plays Kaancha Cheena) is getting such an amazing feedback but I am so happy.

When is the Munnabhai triquel going on floors?
September.

It's been a while since Lage Raho Munnabhai came out. How do you plan to get into the skin of the character again?
I don't think it should be a problem. I will watch the film a couple of times just before the start of the shoot.

In a cricket crazy country like India, why are you planning to concentrate on martial arts?
People in India like watching action movies. This is a huge opportunity. I remember when Mike Tyson was fighting I was in jail at that time.

I requested the authorities 'sir please mujhe ek din ke liye barracks main le chalo because I want to watch Mike's match on the TV'. As a result, Raj Kundra and I have got together to launch a martial arts venture.

You are a self-confessed bad businessman...
Yes, but fortunately my wife is not (smiles). One thing I love about Maanayata is that she never interferes in my matters and respects my decisions. When it's business I am clueless.

All I know is that 10 plus 10 equals to 20. Raj who is aware of this said 'okay you stay out of it, I will coordinate with Maanayata.'

John The Unfaithful?

The hunk apparently met Priya, his current squeeze, when Bips and him were still together!

John and Priya have known each other for longer than we thought!
John and Priya have known each other for longer than we thought!

Wondering how Priya snuck into the once envied inseparable relationship between John Abraham and Bipasha Basu that eventually led to John calling it quits with Bips? According to a source the investment banker from Mumbai Priya Runchal’s brush with B’wood began in December 2010 when Priya began working out in the same gym that John and Bips used to visit regularly.

Initially it is believed Priya only had occasional and very formal chats with the star couple. With time however, she fell for John’s charming personality. John’s feelings were also mutual despite the fact that he was still in a relationship with the sultry siren Bips. Whether it was her film projects or her intensive workouts to maintain her killer figure, Bips didn’t notice the romance brewing between her boyfriend and her gym buddy, Priya, and this oversight cost her dearly.

The source added that even though Bips may have come across rumours about John seeing another woman she didn’t pay it any attention because she was very much in love with John. There was however one point of debate between the couple which eventually caused the rift in the relationship, namely marriage. The source clarified this aspect. Apparently, 33-year-old Bipasha who dated John for nearly a decade thought it was high time she legalised her relationship with John. She always shared these dreams of settling down and starting a family with John. But her macho boyfriend never took the issue of marriage seriously as he wanted to focus more on his career.

It took until February 2011, after almost ten years of dating, for Bips to realise that John wouldn’t ever marry her; it was then that she parted ways with him. Just months later, while still reeling under the agonising break-up Bips was shocked to learn that John had moved on in life and had found another woman. But what really astounded her was that John’s squeeze was none other than her simpering gym buddy Priya Runchal.

Doesn’t this sound like the plot of the Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ in which Bipasha’s character (coincidentally a model turned actress) gets cheated on by Ranbir who gets a way to her heart and her bedroom by fake promises of marriage? So we are wondering how Bips didn’t see this one coming in real life!

Noureen DeWulf, a hot desi girl in Hollywood talks

Noureen DeWulf, a hot desi girl in Hollywood talksNoureen DeWulf, an Indian American actress, is currently making waves with her looks and acting talent, reports Howard Cincotta

What is a common denominator for film, music, fashion and virtually every other manifestation of pop culture—whether Hollywood, Bollywood, New York, Paris, Tokyo or London? Correct answer: beautiful women in alluring poses.

Stunning Indian American actress Noureen DeWulf understands this fact as well as anyone, and she has graced her share of magazine covers, posed for publicity photos, and accommodated the desperate throngs of photographers on red-carpet runways. In 2007, Maxim magazine named her to its highly publicised “Hot 100” list of the most beautiful women in the world.

But DeWulf, 27, has also combined her acting talent, range and commitment to become one of the most active and sought-after television and film actresses in Hollywood today.

Since her 2005 debut in the musical film West Bank Story, DeWulf has appeared in 18 theatrical and television movies, plus 13 TV series and mini-series, often in multiple episodes. Her latest release is Breakaway, a comedy about an Indian Canadian hockey team. The animated film Zambezia is due out shortly. She also performs in improvisational theater in Los Angeles.

“I put a lot of pressure to keep working,” DeWulf said to the radio-interview program Mr. Media. “And when I’m not working, my agent books three auditions a day…I’d rather go to the set and work.”

Her acting roles also demonstrate a remarkable scope. DeWulf has played a Palestinian cashier working in a falafel shop (West Bank Story), a girlfriend with an attitude and a pronounced Indian accent (Ghosts of Girlfriends Past), Jennifer Lopez’s friend and pet-store employee (The Back-up Plan), and a recurring role as a nurse in the TV hospital series, Hawthorne.

Many fans of the TV spy comedy-drama, Chuck, fondly recall her epic martial arts battle in a yogurt shop with co-star Yvonne Stahovski.

In the 2010 film, The Taqwacores, which deals with the unlikely subject of Muslim punk rockers in Buffalo, New York, DeWulf plays the role in a burqa, even as her character, Rabeya, challenges religious orthodoxy at every turn.

Despite DeWulf’s covered face, said the film’s director to the British film blog EatSleepLiveFilm, “She outshines the burqa. When I see it now, I don’t see the burqa, I see the person. She knocked it out of the park.”

“It is challenging and hard to not accept all the stereotypical roles that get thrown your way,” DeWulf said to the online entertainment magazine Buzzine. “For me, I’ve been really, really lucky because I have been able to play a lot of different parts.”

DeWulf was born in New York City to Gujarati parents from Pune and grew up in Stone Mountain, Georgia. She is fluent in Hindi, Urdu and Gujarati.

DeWulf quietly nurtured the dream of becoming an actress as a child, even though she wasn’t permitted to take theatre classes. At Boston University’s School of the Arts in Massachusetts, however, DeWulf threw herself into theatre courses and joined an acting company in Atlanta, Georgia during summer breaks. In 2005, without any friends, connections or agents, she moved to Los Angeles.

“I was really nervous to come out here,” she told Buzzine. “You put yourself out there and perhaps you fail, then you have no job. I was kind of hesitant, but I made the leap of faith.”

She addresses the contradictions of her strict upbringing and her Hollywood persona with refreshing candour. “Ironically, it was because I was raised as a Muslim in the South, that I realised the value in being true to who you really are,” she said to the fashion and entertainment magazine Details.

“I’ve just got so many things going on inside. I don’t know how to resolve all of them other than being true to who I am.”

DeWulf is frank in acknowledging that many of her film roles are not easy for her family to cope with. “But as I work in more roles, I think my parents are understanding it’s not me doing those things, but the character which I’m portraying,” she said to SAPNA, the magazine for South Asian American women and desi girls.

At the same time, she observed, “I love my heritage both as someone who grew up as a Muslim and as an Indian—it’s part of who I am and I would never deny it.”

India-Pakistan to lock horns in Reality wars

India-Pakistan to lock horns in Reality warsContestants from India and Pakistan take on each other in a bid for top honours on the small screen

The relations between India and Pakistan may be strained due to several issues over the last six decades. But on the small screen currently, as the Bard wrote, "If music be the food of love, play on..."

There are two reality shows in the pipeline celebrating Indo-Pak music and food. More shows are in the pipeline considering the herd mentality of the tube.

Boney Kapoor's brainwave Sur Kshetra, a music reality show, will have contestants from both the nations. While Siddharth Basu's Foodistan has participants from the two countries tickle the tastebuds.

According to Suresh Mishra of the channel that will air Sur Kshetra, "Even though political boundaries have divided the two nations, music has always fostered a common and harmonious bond.

We are making an attempt to bring forth the best from India and Pakistan. We are confident that viewers from across the border as well as the globe will experience and cherish a set of new generation of singing talents."

Adds Smeeta Chakrabarti of the channel airing Foodistan, "India and Pakistan are two nations who share a common passion for good food.

This love for food is something that binds the two nations in spite of the numerous differences. We are positive that our viewers will not only enjoy the show but will also connect to it."

Sonya Jehan will judge a culinary show that has contestants from India and Pakistan

Foodistan which was launched in New Delhi earlier this week has actress Sonya Jehan (grand daughter of Noorjehan and who was last seen in the film Taj Mahal) along with British chef Merrilees Parker and food critic Vir Sanghi as judges.

The show's contestants include Khursheed Amina Agha, or Poppy, as she is better known, as well as Amir Iqbal, culinary names from Pakistani cookery shows.

While Sur Kshetra has Himesh Reshammiya and Atif Aslam as mentors with Asha Bhosle, Abida Parveen and Bangladeshi crooner Runa Laila as judges. Initially Suresh Wadkar and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan were pencilled in on board the jury.

Buzz is that Suresh apparently asked for a hefty fee and as he is also busy with his own music academy, the channel decided to rope in Asha Bhosle. As Rahat is tied up with his tours, now the channel is in talks with Abida.

Foodistan was quietly shot in Gurgaon last November to avoid any unwanted attention. Sur Ksehtra will be entirely shot in Dubai to avoid the travelling constraints of the Pakistanis to India. The show will be anchored by actress Ayesha Takia while Foodistan has Aly Khan and Ira Dubey as hosts.
