The Hottest Item Song of 2011 is

And The Hottest Item Song of 2011 is...As a part of our year-end polls, we asked a cross section of people to rate the 2011 item numbers that made them go tizzy with its oomph factor. Here are the poll results

Just as a typical Bollywood movie seems incomplete without an item song, ending 2011 without a special piece on them would be just as abrupt.

An item number along with its mandatory jhatkas and latkas, comes handy not only as a crowd pulling publicity gimmick before the release of the film, but also to up the hotness quotient of the film.

In some cases it is also said to have boosted box office openings and has also served as a saving grace for some bad movies.

Tere pyaar ne kar diya deewana

And if women are ruling the roost with their oomph-appeal, can the men in the male-dominated industry be left behind?

Character Dheela

So if last year's item girls like Munni (Malaika Arora Khan) and Sheela (Katrina Kaif) are conspicuous by their absence in the list this year, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan more than make it up with their nominations.

Ooh la la

The nominations for the most talked-about item songs in films released in 2011.

Chammak challo (RA.One) - Kareena Kapoor
Ooh la la, Ooh la la (The Dirty Picture) - Vidya Balan
Dum Maaro Dum (Dum Maaro Dum) - Deepika Padukone
Jalebi bai (Double Dhamaal) - Mallika Sherawat
Tere pyaar ne kar diya deewana (Delhi Belly) - Aamir Khan
Character Dheela (Ready) - Salman Khan/Zareen Khan
Zara Kareeb Se (Murder 2) - Yana Gupta

'Chammak Challo' Kareena Kapoor speaks after topping our poll...

The Chammak challo track is rated as the best item number of 2011 in the Mid-day poll.

Did you expect it to win?
When we were shooting Chammak challo, I instantly fell in love with the track. It has that kind of beat and that feel to it.

Also the look of the song, the outfit and desi avatar worked for me. Nightclubs in South India and London don't normally play Hindi music.

I am told Chammak challo is the only track that plays in those night clubs, also in Chennai and Hyderabad. My college friends tell me that it plays constantly in Mumbai nightclubs too.

Do people call you Chammak challo after the release of the song?
It happens all the time. Lot of actors and friends call me Chammak challo. I love it.

Are you aiming for one item song like this every year?
I don't make any such plans. I am an actress. Acting is my passion. There is no Hindi movie complete without the heroine actually shaking her booty.

So it's important that a heroine should be able to dance, to make people cry and laugh and absolutely look good at the same time. It's a deadly combination.

What was Saif's reaction when he saw the number for the first time?
He hasn't seen the film yet. He has seen the song on TV. He told me that it's great and he loved the track. He didn't say anything special. I think he takes it a little bit for granted. (Laughs)

Since New Year is around the corner, are you getting a lot of offers to perform?
As a rule, I don't perform on the New Year's Eve. That's my private time with my family and I don't like performing at the five star hotels and weddings.

I don't think my parents are comfortable with that. That's something Saif and I have decided not to do. But I enjoy dancing at award shows.

Who is your favourite item girl?
Helen Aunty and Malaika (Arora). Both are extremely vivacious and sensuous.

Helen Aunty is a living legend and Malaika is one of the finest dancers and one of the sexiest women I have known.

Besides, she is my dear friend.

Hrithik in Dhanush`s fantasy film? South star Dhanush of 'Kolaveri Di' fame is keen on casting the star in his directorial debut in Bollywood

Post the Kolaveri mania, there couldn't have been a better time for South star and Rajnikanth's son-in-law Dhanush to announce his directorial debut in Bollywood. The actor is planning to take the leap into direction with a fantasy flick.

It is learnt that Dhanush is keen on casting Hrithik Roshan as his main lead. Says a source, "A few days back, Dhanush was in Mumbai and he met some people regarding his project.

He has a few names in mind and Hrithik is on the top of his list. This is a big budget fantasy flick and he needs someone larger-than-life who can carry off the film."

It came as a surprise when Dhanush chose to make this movie in Hindi and not in Tamil. Says Dhanush, "When I say I am directing, I cannot even think of acting in the same space.

It's my dream project and I want to give it my all. So I'd rather just focus on one thing. Though I think it is too premature to talk about the film, I am definitely finalising the story and looking at some big names to cast."

Dhanush will now regularly travel between Chennai and Mumbai for his forthcoming ventures and also this project, which he is expecting to start by 2012 end.

Delhi Belly in censor trouble

His ‘Delhi Belly’ has been denied a certificate for its screening on TV

Aamir Khan
Aamir Khan

When Aamir Khan was promoting his adult comedy ‘Delhi Belly’, he said that he would be losing a lot of his fans and family audiences with this film. It looks like his fears have come true. Though the film, replete with risqué jokes and explicit scenes, was a big hit with the youth, it is still considered too hot to be shown on the small screen.

The story goes that Aamir, like other filmmakers wanted a television premiere of his film which was released earlier this year. But the censor board has denied to give it a U/A certification to the adult film which is necessary if it has to be screened on TV. Director Abhinay Deo apparently re-edited and re-dubbed the content of the film to suit the sensibilities of TV audiences and the guidelines of the censor board but the latter wasn’t willing to budge.

Insiders now say, Aamir has taken it upon himself to deal with the members of the board and convince them. Meanwhile, his team is going out all out to ensure that the demands of the censor board are met with even while retaining the essence of the movie.

It is surely a tough task for the USP of ‘Delhi Belly’ is its shocking jokes! Can you imagine the movie without them?

The actor is flying down a fitness trainer from the US to beef up for ‘Krrish’

Hrithik Roshan
Hrithik Roshan

Hrithik Roshan doesn’t believe in doing things in half-measures. The actor, who had been laid low with a back injury and some other ailments, needs to get back into shape fast before he faces the camera of the ‘Krrish’ sequel. Needless to say, this superhero film will require him to look his fittest best. To achieve his dream body, Hrithik has apparently hired one of the most expensive physical trainers in the world to train him. Reports say that trainer Kris Gethin and his wife Maraica Johnson have been flown down from the US by the actor personally and they have been put up in his apartment in Mumbai.

Hrithik’s connection with Kris goes back to September when the latter had come down for the Mr Olympia contest. The actor was impressed with what he saw and heard of Kris and decided to hire him at a whopping cost of Rs 20 lakh a month. Sources say Duggu will undergo rigorous training through a process called DTP that Kris uses.

But while Hrithik’s attention is focused on 'Krrish', guess who is focusing on him? It’s none other than the ‘Kolaveri D’ man Dhanush who wants to make his first Hindi movie with him in the lead. Dhanush, son-in-law of superstar Rajnikant, is planning a big-budget fantasy flick and he needs someone larger-than-life to carry it off. And who better than Hrithik? Well, if he gets that million-rupee body by training with Kris, we are sure Duggu would be able to carry off any larger-than-life fantasy role with panache!

Dostana’ sequel might be shelved

Is producer Karan Johar miffed with director Tarun Mansukhani?

A still from 'Dostana'
A still from 'Dostana'

If you were looking forward to seeing John Abraham’s hot body and Abhishek playing a dandy again then you are in for a disappointment. According to reportes, the sequel to 2008’s madcap comedy ‘Dostana’ might not take off. And the reason is director Tarun Mansukhan’s alleged tantrums.

Apparently, Tarun has demanded that producer Karan Johar pay him an astronomical figure to direct the sequel. Industry insiders also reveal that the director believes that he belongs to the top league of directors and hence should be entitled to a share in the profits his movies make! Now this demand has not gone down well with KJo who has always treated his directors fairly.

However, a section of the industry says that more than money, script has been the issue why ‘Dostana 2’ is being delayed. The script to the sequel has apparently not found favour with the cast who believe that the second part must better the first one and meet expectations of fans.

With so much speculation going on, we guess we won’t know why ‘Dostana 2’ is shelved until the makers themselves clear the picture. But will they?
