Veena Malik assaults Vedita: She banged my head on the rod

Wednesday 25 January 2012

Veena Malik assaults Vedita: She banged my head on the rodA co-star has accused the controversial Veena Malik of purposely injuring her during a fight sequence for the film 'Mumbai 125'.

Malik was reportedly not on good terms with co-actress Vedita Pratap, who is learnt to have been injured on her forehead as a result of the scene.

According to sources, the Pakistani actress had to pull Pratap by the neck and bang her head on an iron rod in a scene but it got too far. The director, Hemant Madhukar, had to be called in as the furious actress said that Malik had intentionally hurt her.

She was reportedly nursed at a city hospital and is said to be currently undergoing treatment to get rid of the scar on her forehead. Pratap confirmed the incident and accused Malik of 'over acting'.

"It was an action sequence. I was supposed to be beaten up. I don't know what happened to Veena. She actually hurt me and she did it so badly that I had nail marks on my body.

I don't know what was wrong with her. And then she pushed me so badly and banged my head on the rod," the Mumbai Mirror quoted her as saying.

"After the incident, I spoke to the director and told him that she is deliberately doing this. Acting is one thing, but this is just over acting," she said.

When asked asked if there was any enmity between the two of them, Pratap said that Malik must be 'insecure'.

"I don't know. I think somewhere she is just insecure or just waited for the opportunity to do something like this to me. As a result of the injury, I have marks on my forehead, which I have to undergo treatment to get rid off," she said.

Veena Malik’s new stunt

The Pakistani actress allegedly assaulted her co-star on the sets of her film

Veena Malik
Veena Malik

The latest stunt from Veena Malik has proved one thing. If she loses her temper you don’t want to stand in her way.
Her victim this week was her petite co-star Vedita Pratap. According to a source, Veena was required to pull Vedita by the neck and bang her head on an iron rod in a fight scene for their upcoming movie ‘Mumbai 125km.’ The 34-year-old Pakistani actress apparently was so serious about making an impression on the director, Hemant Madhukar that she ended up badly injuring Vedita on the sets. Following the assault, the actress was rushed to the hospital to treat a scar on the forehead.

While Veena might attribute it to her sincerity to her job, Vedita was far from impressed. She said that Veena had completely lost her temper and took it out on her deliberately. She added that Veena pushed and struck her head on the rod so hard that she was howling in pain. Later, she admitted that she had had a word with the director about Veena’s deliberate act. “Veena is very insecure and is just looking for an opportunity to pounce on me,” she alleged.

Given this stunt and a public display of her mercurial temper we are wondering whether what she will come up with next!

Kareena looks good only with me: Saif

Kareena looks good only with me: SaifSaif Ali Khan didn't mince words when asked which of Bollywood's many Khans does his girlfriend, actress Kareena Kapoor look best with.

Apart from Saif, Kareena has so far worked with Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and will soon be seen with young Imran Khan in "Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu". After working with Saif in "Tashan" and "Kurbaan", she will be seen with him again in the upcoming "Agent Vinod", set for release March 23.

"Kareena looks good with me and there is no comparison! Apart from me, I don't see anybody (with whom she looks good)," Saif told reporters here on the sidelines of the first poster launch of his production "Agent Vinod".

Kareena, the leading lady of the spy thriller, was missing from the event Wednesday.

Saif explained: "We had to divide to conquer... she will be seen in future promotional activities for the film."

The first poster of the movie features only Saif in it. However, he promises that unlike other action films, the actress has a justified role in his film too.

"Kareena has a very strong role in the film. She has done justice to the role and the role has also done justice to her," Saif said.

The shooting of "Agent Vinod", directed by Sriram Raghavan, took a while. And Saif denies rumours that the delay ensued due to budget hassles.

"The film taking time to complete are the reports given by media. There were lots of rumours that the film is getting delayed, it's getting over the budget... everything was just a rumour. Films take time," he said.

He guarantees that the wait will be worth it, as he said: "The kind of action and locations that we have chosen, I have not seen in much movies.

The film must have taken a longer time, but it does not matter as long as the product is interesting."

The film is said to have dollops of action, but Kareena wasn't too comfortable with it.

"She doesn't like doing action, but she is very good at it. She gives pretty intense expressions. As far as I am concerned, I thought it (action) would be fun, but it was very frightening. It's not easy," said Saif.

Besides the unique action sequences, "Agent Vinod" will also have a "different" item song, a 'mujra' picturised on Kareena.

"We thought let's go a different way and try something different in terms of expression. I believe even Dinesh Vijan was pushing for a mujra... we needed to make our item a little bit different," said Saif.

Aamir’s fire-proof plan

His perfectionist ways helped minimise the casualties when his set caught fire

Aamir Khan
Aamir Khan

On Monday, a fire broke out on the sets of Aamir Khan’s reality TV show at Madh Island in Mumbai. But thanks to the actor’s preparedness and his vision, it didn’t flare up into something bigger or more dangerous.

Apparently, someone from the technical department was doing a routine check in the night and there was spark in the lighting section due to which the fire spread onto the entire floor. But Aamir had already devised an emergency plan to tackle the situation. Sources say the actor had specially hired a team of four who were trained to handle such emergencies. So, to minimise casualties in the event of a fire, over and above the normal security, the four men were present on the sets.

Though the fire spread rapidly, Aamir’s security personnel attended to it immediately and it proved to be a blessing as the fire brigade took some time to reach. Nevertheless the fire caused a lot of damage, almost around Rs 1 crore!
Though when contacted, Aamir played down the incident, he said he was relieved that there were no major casualties or injuries.

Once again it was his foresight that saved the day!

Bollywood calling Dhanush

The actor-singer finally gets a break in T'town

Dhanush
Dhanush

Superstar Rajnikanth’s son-in-law, Dhanush who shot to international fame with his ‘Why This Kolaveri Di’ has more reasons to cheer. We hear that he has finally signed a B’wood movie titled ‘Raanjhnaa.’

As was reported earlier, Dhanush had been shopping in Bollwyood for the right role and producers had started taking interest in him post his 'Kolaveri..' success. The director who has bagged him is Anand L. Rai who made waves last year with his romantic comedy ‘Tanu Weds Manu.’

In a press statement the director said that in the past six months he had been busy searching for the right face for his new project until he saw Dhanush in the Tamil movie ‘Aadukalam’ for which the actor won the national award. Rai added that Dhanush’s ordinary looks and unassuming persona made him seem perfect for the lead role of a simple boy in ‘Raanjhnaa.’

Rai also hastened to add that Dhanush wasn't being signed only because he had turned an overnight sensation. Apparently the director had approached the 28-year-old Tamil actor much before ‘Kolaveri Di’ went viral. (Sounds hard to believe but we take his word for it).

However, there is one problem that still needs to be sorted and it pertains to the leading man's lack of fluency in Hindi. Apparently, Dhanush can’t put together a sentence in Hindi but that doesn't daunt him. A coach is being hired to tutor him in the in the language. Good luck Dhanush!

Priyanka and SRK bond big time! Spicy details inside

Priyanka and SRK bond big time! Spicy details insideSpicy details of what happened at the rehearsals for an awards function at Macau

Priyanka Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan are once again in the news as sources say that the two bonded big time during the rehearsals of an awards function in Macau.

In fact, PC ignored ex-beau Shahid Kapoor and kept Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif waiting as she went on practicing her piece with SRK.

Our sources tell us, "Shah Rukh and Priyanka were doing a skit, so before the event they rehearsed it, as is the norm. However, they didn't stop at just a couple of practices, but went on till they finished over half a dozen rehearsals.

Though their skit was about ten minute-long, they used the stage for about an hour and a half." Fortunately for them, help came before the two began their seventh rehearsal.

"Mohammed bhai, one of the Morani brothers who were organising the show, went up to Shah Rukh to request him if he could allow Shahid and Ranbir to rehearse on the stage. That's when SRK realised that they had taken considerable time and left," says our source.

Interestingly, Priyanka didn't even bother to greet Shahid at the venue at all. She is said to have ignored him.

If the bonding between Don and his junglee billi was expected, not many anticipated that two young Kapoors would get along so well instantly.

Sensing that Ranbir Kapoor was nervous as he had never danced on stage before, Shahid went up to him to make him feel at ease.

"Having trained under Shaimak Davar, Shahid is very familiar with performing on stage. More so because he has also performed many times since he became an actor.

On the other hand, while Ranbir has hosted award shows, he hasn't performed on stage. So he was a bit nervous," recalls our source.

Shahid requested Morani to let Ranbir and Katrina rehearse on one side of the stage while he practised his moves on the other side.

Our informer elaborates, "Since he felt that Ranbir could do with more time to rehearse his performance, Shahid decided to let him also practise his moves on the stage at the same time."

Kamal Haasan wants SRK not Salman Khan

Kamal Haasan wants SRK not Salman KhanIf Kamal Haasan had his way, superstar Shah Rukh Khan will be the only actor to step into his shoes for the Hindi remake of Gautham Menon's Tamil film "Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu".

Shah Rukh is currently in a dilemma as he has to choose between the remakes of two Tamil films - "Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu" and A.R. Murugadoss's "Ramanna".

Both offer the picky King Khan a chance to do something he hasn't done before -- a south Indian remake with parts that he hasn't tried before.

"While Murugadoss's film casts SRK as a social crusader, Menon's film casts him as a cop, a role he has played just once in Shashilal Nair's 'One 2 Ka 4' and that too a plain-clothed cop. SRK has never got a chance to get into khaki uniform. This, 'Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu' will let him do," said a source.

Haasan, who played the role of the cop on the lookout for a serial killer in the original movie "Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu", has expressed keen interest in Shah Rukh reprising the role in the film's Hindi version.

"Kamalji is extremely fond of Shah Rukh. They go back a long way to the time when 12 years ago Shah Rukh agreed to do Kamalji's 'Hey Ram' free of cost.

When director Gautham Menon, who understandably respects Kamalji's opinion, asked the thespian who should play his role in the Hindi remake, Kamalji promptly gave Shah Rukh's name," said a source close to the project.

Menon confirmed his eagerness to cast Shah Rukh and said: "I don't know where these reports of Salman Khan being an option for 'Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu' are coming from. It's Shah Rukh Khan, who is the first and only choice. Kamalji played the part in the Tamil original. So Shah Rukh seems the right candidate for the part."

There is another reason why Salman was eliminated early from the race to play the cop in Menon's film.

Salman has already done the khaki bit several times over.

"Shah Rukh in khaki is a novelty. Salman has been there and done it many times. Shah Rukh is our man for the part," said the source.

Apparently, "Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu" will explore the same dark noire cop-killer space as Aamir Khan's "Talaash".

A source close to the project says that the only reason Shah Rukh has not given a final nod to Menon's remake is because he wants to see how "Talaash" is received by the audiences.

Now, Asin says No

Now, Asin says No'Shootout at Wadala' casting woes continue as the makers search for the female lead

The search for the female lead for Shootout at Wadala continues. The latest name who was considered for the role Asin has turned down the offer.

The actress was recently in talks for the project but decided against doing it. Asin's business manager states, "Yes, she was approached to be part of the project. But had to turn it down as the required dates were clashing with another project."

Apparently the actress has given a chunk of her dates to Bol Bachchan for which she is currently shooting. Asin's move has led producer-director Sanjay Gupta's prequel to his 2007 flick Shootout at Lokhandwala left yet again with casting woes.

A while back there was buzz that Vidya Balan was being considered for the role. But the actress who found the script interesting did not find it as interested to give it a nod.

As reported 'Vivek plays games' (Hitlist, January 14), Gupta who was initially keen to cast Vivek Oberoi was later forced to drop him apparently due to VO's unprofessional behaviour.

Shootout at Wadala, which revolves around the first encounter killing in the city in the early '80s was launched in August last year with John Abraham and Anil Kapoor.

Sensual and Seductive Rain Songs

Sensual and Seductive Rain SongsBe it "Kaatey nahin kat te" or "Zoobie doobie", there has always been something sensual and seductive about Bollywood songs shot in the rain.

The trend continues with two new songs - "O saiyan" and "Piya o re piya", which make for emotional, passionate and romantic additions to their films.

While "O saiyan" features Priyanka Chopra and Hrithik Roshan in "Agneepath", B-Town's soon-to-be-married-couple Riteish Desmukh and Genelia D' Souza will be seen romancing each other in the "Piya o re piya" song from their forthcoming movie "Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya".

Choreographer and "Dance India Dance" judge Geeta Kapoor, who has choreographed the latter number, says rain dance songs are definitely in vogue but are different in feel nowadays.

"Rain dances were never out of fashion. But the way they are shot or portrayed today has become different.

There are now more of sequences and have a little less dancing.

It is difficult sometimes to come up with different visual techniques and lighting, but there is always a small reason that makes a big difference like the cast, story and situations which help a rain dance song look different from all those that we have seen over the years," Kapoor told.

Rain has formed the backdrop for several Bollywood songs since the black and white era.

From "Pyaar hua ikraar hua" to "Ek ladki bheegi bhaagi si", "Aaj rapat jaaye toh", "Bheegi bheegi raaton mein", "Na jaane kahaan se aayi hai", "Tip tip barsa paani", "Kaate nahin kat te", "Gale lag jaa", "Barso re", "Alvida", "Dilbara", "Main yahaan hun", "Jo haal dil ka", "Chak dhoom dhoom", "On the roof, in the rain", "Hum tum", "Bhaage re mann", "Idhar chalaa main udhar chala" and "Zoobie doobie" have used the charm of rain for adding oomph on the big screen.

But the feel of the songs has changed over the years, says Pony Verma, who choreographed the song "Gale lag jaa" from "De Dana Dan".

"Earlier, rain dance in movies was only restricted to walking hand-in-hand and singing songs, then there was a phase when people started giving structured dance moves.

But now, once again filmmakers are getting back to the old days and putting rain sequences but with a little bit of dancing," she said.

According to Bollywood choreographers, rain dance sequences are not only difficult to direct but also tough on the actors.

"The artists have to spend the entire time under the heavy flow of water and this sometimes leads to unhygienic situations. It's mostly a challenging task to keep the spirit and continue the shoot as the hot body temperature and cold water create side effects in many cases.

It is required to take a break every now and then while shooting such songs," Ganesh Acharya, who choreographed Lara Dutta and Vivek Oberoi in the song "On the roof, in the air" from the movie "Masti", told.

Kapoor agrees. She said: "While choreographing a rain sequence, a lot of factors need to be considered.

Things like appropriate clothing, minimal unit depending on the sequence, weather conditions, and clean choreography need to be taken care of so that the product look decent and watchable.

"Also, it's not really that difficult to choreograph such songs if one has a good rain machine set-up, great director of photography, good camera and good artists...all that combined make for a good rain sequence."

A noteworthy point is how most dance directors choose to make women wear a sari in most of the rain songs. Wonder why?

"I think it's a tried-and-tested thing for filmmakers to give a sari to actresses for such songs as an Indian woman looks her best in a sari," she said.

Saif Ali Khan: AGENT VINOD is not a copy of James Bond films

view AGENT VINOD poster
view AGENT VINOD poster

Producer and actor Saif Ali Khan launched the first trailer of his much awaited filmAGENT VINOD. And going by the slick promo, the style of action, the way Saif's character has been presented/introduced and its overall aura, the film is being hailed as the Indian version of James Bond movie or Saif as Indian James Bond.

When asked director Sriram Raghavan, he said, "When I was a kid I used to watch James Bond movies. The opening sequence of the film used to be so exciting that while watching it I used to decide to see the movie again. It's a terrific feeling. We have tried our best to incorporate that feeling in the film AGENT VINOD."

However Saif doesn't want his film AGENT VINOD to be compared with James Bond or his films. "A lot of people will think AGENT VINOD is Indian version of James Bond film and we have tried to copy James Bond. But copying it would be a very stupid thing to do. First of all James Bond is completely an English character. He is like a capitalist hero who is okay to drink and womanize and still he is a role model. AGENT VINOD is not that. From the first scene of the film you'll realize he is an Indian hero who is very different to the bond character. We don't want to make a copy of a bond film," said Saif.

Saif added, "India has always had a kind of an interest in the characters that are special. There have been such films in the past which generated interest. But we thought if we could make it in a contemporary way given the emerging global Indian personality it would be interesting to create a character that would be completely Indian. At the same time as Sriram said there would be little bit of Bond touch, may be the clothes, but there's also a little bit of Jason bond and also little bit of TIN TIN."

Also starring Kareena Kapoor, AGENT VINOD is all set to hit the screens on March 23rd 2012.

What's brewing between Shahrukh and Anurag Kashyap?

What`s brewing between Shah Rukh and Anurag Kashyap? With the actor apparently inviting the filmmaker over to Mannat after a filmy party, we wonder if there's a film in the offing

There are no permanent friends or enemies in Bollywood and Anurag Kashyap would know this.

The filmmaker who is known to have been quite brazen about his dislike for certain clans within the industry once, now seems to be warming up to the very same people.

Few weeks ago we saw him make amends with Arbaaz Khan at a party and now we hear that the filmmaker was seen spending some quality time with superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

Says a source, "Last week at a party for one of the upcoming awards SRK, Anurag, Kalki, Gulshan Deviah and Karan Johar were seen hanging out together.

In fact they left the venue together. Everyone was surprised because it was a whole new gang bonding with each other."

Interestingly not too long ago, stories about trouble brewing between Anurag and SRK were doing the rounds, because the filmmaker apparently thought the actor wasn't the right choice for his film Bombay Velvet.

Kashyap soon brushed off the rumours saying Aamir was always the first choice for the role.

However, a few days back at a press conference, Anurag said, "I would love to work with Shah Rukh and Hrithik. They are extremely talented." Adds the source, "After the party, the whole gang was spotted at SRK's Bandra bungalow. So it looks like there was some serious discussion going on."

Post Udaan, Karan Johar and Kashyap were also set to team up for Vikramaditya Motwane's next. Though that did not materialise, may be there's something bigger in store. Watch this space for more.
