Ranbir touches Deepika's feet

Tuesday 17 January 2012

Ranbir touches Deepika`s feetRanbir Kapoor took Deepika Padukone by surprise when he bent down to touch her feet at the Colors Screen award function

It was a sight to behold. Ranbir Kapoor seeking the blessing of his ex-flame Deepika Padukone! Whether intentional or a spur of the moment doing, it took the actress by surprise.

At the Colors Screen awards held over the weekend, Dippy along with filmmaker Subhash Ghai handed over the Best Actor trophy to RK.

The choice to have Deepika to give away the award to RK was obviously to attract eyeballs and raise eyebrows. But what followed certainly made the audience at the MMRDA grounds notice it.

When RK arrived on the stage, he first bent down and touched Ghai's feet. And then took everyone by surprise when he again stooped to touch Deepika's feet.

She took it sportingly and laughed heartily before handing over the trophy to RK. Incidentally, Deepika too won the Popular Choice award for Aarakshan.

But it was the trio of Prateik, Sharman Joshi and Mugdha Godse who gave her the trophy. There was no Kapoor Junior, otherwise would Dippy have done an act too, perhaps?

Ranbir and Deepika are slated to feature together in Ayan Mukerji's Yeh Jawaani Yeh Deewani, perhaps Ranbir was just preparing to face the camera with her again on a happy note.

Shahrukh kisses Katrina Kaif

First Look: SRK kisses Katrina KaifKatrina Kaif was certainly not expecting this!

While most women only dream of Shah Rukh Khan swooning over them, apni Chikni Chameli looks too shocked to react, when Khan casually walked over and planted a kiss on her cheeks during the Colors Screen awards.

Well, considering a certain Salman Khan wasn't even part of the event, we wonder what's forced Kat to look this frozen.

Smile, lady... it's the kiss of a superstar!

Akshay Kumar: Sajid is a 'man of his words'

Akshay Kumar had a reasonably decent 2011 where he had a couple of average earners in DESI BOYZ, THANK YOU and with good critical acclaim coming in for a sensitive performance in PATIALA HOUSE. Moreover 2012 looks even brighter with quite a few interesting films spread across different genres lined up for release one after another. As the New Year kick-starts and Akshay gets back to the grind after a short holiday where he brought in the birthday of his wife Twinkle Khanna and father-in-law Rajesh Khanna, the 'khiladi' gets going with his newer bunch of films - HOUSEFULL 2ROWDY RATHORE and JOKER.

First to arrive would be HOUSEFULL 2 which, as per the industry insiders, has shaped up really well and is all set to be the first blockbuster of the year 2012. Not known as someone who likes making premature declarations around the commercial outcome of his upcoming films, Akshay is happy to talk about the film's director Sajid Khan who is said to have taken further strides as a filmmaker when compared to his HOUSEFULL and HEYY BABYY.

''One thing that I can say about Sajid Khan is that he is a man of his words,' says Akshay, 'If he says that HOUSEFULL 2 is going to be a mega blockbuster, I dare anyone to stand in front of him and disagree. I personally feel this is a huge film; now how big is something that I will never know. However it is a full house of humour, action, slapstick, bromance and much more. There is nothing missing in this film and there are so many great actors in it that there is something for everyone.''

With producer Sajid Nadiadwala, this is his fifth film in a row after being seen in HOUSEFULL, HEYY BABYY, JAAN-E-MANN and MUJHSE SHAADI KAROGI. Says Akshay, ''Yes, we have been making quite a few films together. I share a great personal and professional equation with Sajid.''

HOUSEFULL 2 releases all over on 5th April.

Battle of the Khans

Battle of the KhansBoth SRK and Salman are being considered for Kamal Hassan's much-touted role in the remake of Gautham Menon's 'Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu'

Bollywood's growing fixation with the South has not just helped superstars like Salman Khan reclaim their stardom, but it has also become a ticket for many southern directors to make their mark here.

Probably why even before the release of his film Ek Deewana Tha, buzz about Gautham Vasudev Menon planning his next remake is already doing the rounds.

The director plans to recreate his Tamil superhit Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu with either Shah Rukh Khan or Salman reprising Kamal Haasan's role in the original.

Says a source, "Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu (2006) was a superhit because it was one of the more modern crime thrillers with some super advanced special effects."

Kamal Hassan plays a cop in the film, and it was reviewed as one of the most engaging investigative films down south.

So technically since Salman has already played a cop in Tamil film Pokhri's Bollywood remake Wanted, he seems to be at an advantage here. However, we hear that the director is trying to work out dates with both Salman as well as SRK.

Adds the source, "It's the role of a daredevil cop who is not just defined by his work, but also the style in which he does it."

Says Gautham, "We are showing the film around and we hope it gets picked up. As far as SRK and Salman go, all I can say is that it is a wish list. It would be great if either come on board, because it's a film for the masses."

Gautham is no stranger to Hindi cinema. The director made his Bollywood debut with the Rehnaa Hein Terre Dil Mein, which was the remake of his south superhit Minnale.

Director Nishikanth Kamath remade Menon's Khaka Khaka into Force. And now the Hindi remake of his superhit film Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa is all set to hit screens.

Bollywood bound

We take a look at some prominent South names all set to give Bollywood directors a run for their money.

A R Murgadoss: After giving Bollywood one of its biggest blockbusters with Aamir Khan at the helm, Ghajini director AR Murugadoss now plans to recreate history with yet another Khan.

We hear that he will be remaking his 2002 Tamil hit Ramana in Hindi. The original film, starring Vijaykanth, captured a common man's fight against corruption. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is apparently all set to produce the film starring SRK.

Dhanush: After the Kolaveri Di mania, there couldn't be a better time for Dhanush to announce his baby steps in Bollywood. The Tamil superstar is now planning to turn director with a fantasy flick in Hindi. He is looking forward to cast Hrithik Roshan in the lead.

Prabhu Deva: After making waves as an accomplished choreographer in Bollywood, Prabhu Deva got behind the camera with Wanted the Hindi remake of Telugu film Pokiri.

The Salman-starrer was not just the surprise hit of 2010, but made way for many such remakes that very year.

His second directorial venture, Rowdy Rathore starring Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha, is already making all the right noises. The film will hit the big screen in June.

Siddique: His debut Hindi film Bodyguard is the second highest grosser in Bollywood. No wonder Siddique has put his next Malayalam film with Mohanlal on hold, to kickstart work on his next Bollywood film, which we hear will star an A-lister as well.

More the merrier

Buzz is that SRK has been approached by Raghava Lawrence for the Hindi remake of his Tamil comedy-horror Kanchana.

Malayalam director Blessy will remake his Pranayam with Amitabh Bachchan playing Mohanlal's role.

Tamil actor-director Mysskin is set to cast John Abraham in the adaptation of the novel The Man from Pakistan.

Telugu director Srinu Vaitla is planning to remake his Dookudu in Hindi. Anees Bazmee remade Srinu's movie Ready that starred Salman Khan and Asin.

She tweets, "...Driving to Juhu now... on the way is a huge Screen awards hoarding... with a pouting Priyanka... in the tiniest of blouses... please someone tell why does a respected Screen award for excellence in cinema need such a marketing gimmick???"

Wonder what Piggy Chops has to say to Juhi's comment? May be just pout? Tee hee.

Christians object to AR Rahman's 'Hosanna' song

Christians object to AR Rahman`s `Hosanna` song The Christian Secular Forum says it's a sacred term and threatens public agitation unless removed from the song

They say too much popularity is never a good thing and this time A R Rahman is at the receiving end. His song Hosanna from Ek Deewana Tha not just became a hit down South (in 2010), but has been climbing Bollywood chartbusters ever since its release.

However, the song isn't exactly music to the ears for a group of people from the Christian Secular Forum (CSF) in Mumbai. The forum has raised a strong objection to the use of the word Hosanna, which is apparently a sacred term used only within prayer songs among the Christians and the Jews.

Says Joseph Dias, General Secretary, CSF, "Hosanna is a prayer in the Bible and used by both Jews and Christians, referring to God or Jesus Christ, with strong reverential and religious connotations.

So to make a song and dance out of it where a guy is professing his love to the girl by using this term is utterly unacceptable."

The forum says that using the term in such derogatory fashion has hurt the sentiments of Christians and Jews and therefore is demanding a public apology, apart from eliminating the word from the song.

Strangely though the original Tamil song became equally popular, it did not face any such objection. Adds Joseph, "I think it may not have been noticed by people then.

Now that we have heard the song, we must stop it. If you would not use Islamic, Hindu or prayers from any other religion in pop secular music, then why do you use Hosanna in a carnal love song from a film.

It trivialises the word."

The forum has now expressed their concern via e-mail to everyone from composer AR Rahman to lyricist Javed Akhtar and to those concerned at Fox Star Studio and Sony Music.

The CSF plans to move to court against Fox Star Studios and Sony Music as well as file a police complaint against those concerned. The producers of Ek Deewana Tha were unavailable for comment.

What the term means

"Hosanna" is a Hebrew word meaning please save or save now.

Shilpa in no hurry to take a break

The actress is ready to shoot her first home production

Shilpa Shetty
Shilpa Shetty

One would assume that Shilpa Shetty would take it easy now that she is in the early stages of her pregnancy. But it looks like the svelte actress would rather work hard and focus on her home production rather than enjoy at home. Though she has been indulging herself, she isn’t worried about putting on weight. Of course, with a figure like that, Shilpa need not worry on that account at all.

Moreover, there is work to keep her busy. Of late, she is busy ensuring that the film ‘Dishkiyaaoon' shapes up well. ‘Dishkiyaaoon' will be the first movie produced by Essential Sports and Media Pvt. Ltd which is owned by Shilpa and her billionaire businessman husband Raj Kundra.
The 36-year-old actress took to Twitter and confirmed the news. She said that the first ‘mahurat’ shot of the movie had already been taken and asked her fans to send her their wishes and prayers as it was her first home production.

The movie is making news not only for Shilpa’s role as a producer but also because it stars Priyanka’s ex-beau Harman Baweja who is still hoping for a hit in B’wood.

But with both Shilpa and Harman not exactly boasting of a successful track record at the BO, we wonder how two flop actors can churn out a hit! Anyway, good luck Mrs Kundra!
