Big B missing from The Great Gatsby’s press release:
Hollywood seems to be diverting all its attention to the English actors and giving Bollywood a royal ignore.
After Anil Kapoor went missing from the trailers of Hollywood’s biggest franchise ‘Mission Impossible’, now another B’town actor is facing the same.
Bollywood was very proud when megastar Amitabh Bachchan was signed to be part of the Hollywood venture Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of ‘The Great Gatsby’. The veteran actor who is to essay Meyer Wolfsheim, shadowy gambler and troublemaker in the film could not be seen in the first look of the film which was unveiled recently.
Apparently, more footage was given to the other actors Leonardo DiCaprio (who plays Gatsby), Tobey Maguire (who features as Nick Carraway) and Joel Edgerton (who essays the role of Tom Buchannan) and Amitabh’s name was buried deep in the studios’ press release.
Well, it’s sad that an actor of Amitabh’s caliber has not been given due importance. According to sources, even though Big B has a good role in the proposed adaptation but still his name was not highlighted.
Even the American news website Huffington Post noticed the sacrilege. The Post wrote: “It’s a small role, but a significant development. Bachchan is one of the most revered actors in Indian history, a king of Bollywood with unparalleled success.”
