New releases fail to impress, PLAYERS disappoint!

None of the four new releases- GHOST, CHAALIS CHAURAASI, SADDA ADDA and TUTIYA DIL- were expected to open very well and they all went the expected path. Shiney Ahuja's GHOST took the best opening of around 10-15 percent, obviously because of the popular horror genre, closely followed by CHAALIS CHAURAASI.

The other two releases of the week, SADDA ADDA and TUTIYA DIL failed to achieve anything significant and were non starters with below 10 percent openings.
The only major release of last week, the Abbas-Mustan directed PLAYERS, saw an average to dull opening weekend of 15 crore and the week closed with the film netting around 22.50 crores, which may have been called decent for a 15-20 crore project. However, the fact that PLAYERS is quite a high-budgeted venture (given the cast), the average opening week of the multi-starrer will prove detrimental to the box-office fate of the film.
As things stand today, PLAYERS will have to sustain in the second week if it has to at least emerge a coverage fare, but that looks quite difficult, if not impossible, given the ordinary overseas run as well.
